Size guide
Sock sizes are not shoe sizes, which is why a pack can say 9-11 when you wear a 7. This page explains what the numbers on our packs mean, how to measure if you are between sizes, and how knee-high and slouch lengths sit differently. Every product page also lists its own size range, and that always wins over this general guide.
What the size on the pack means

How to measure your foot
- Put a sheet of paper on a hard floor against a wall and stand on it with your heel touching the wall.
- Mark the paper at the tip of your longest toe, which is not always the big toe.
- Measure from the wall to the mark in inches. That is your foot length.
- Match it to the US shoe size you normally buy, then use the table above to find the sock size. Sock sizing follows US shoe sizing, not foot length directly.
- Between two sizes? Take the larger one. A sock with a little room sits better than one pulled tight across the toes, and a stretched sock wears through faster.
Measuring for knee-high and slouch socks
For anything that comes above the ankle, calf width matters as much as foot size. Measure around the widest part of your calf with a tape measure, keeping it snug but not tight. A tall sock that has to stretch hard at the calf will work its way down as you walk, so if you are near the top of a range, size up.
Knee-high, slouch and crew lengths
- Crew ends a few inches above the ankle bone. Our crew socks are the everyday length.
- Knee-high is cut to reach just below the knee, around 20 inches on our combed cotton pairs, and has a ribbed elastic top to hold its position.
- Slouch is deliberately longer than a knee-high. Pull it all the way up and it sits tall; push it down and it bunches at the ankle, which is the look these are made for. Because slouch socks are cut long, taller wearers can wear them as knee-highs.
- Ankle and no-show sit at or below the ankle bone. Our sheer ankle socks and men's no-show loafer socks are these lengths.
